The Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training course is designed to teach adults how to recognise signs and symptoms of an emerging mental illness, or to provide initial support to a teenager who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.
The course explores how to identify signs and symptoms of mental health concerns, how to approach and communicate with individuals in distress, and how to guide them toward appropriate professional or community support.
Through structured discussions, role-play, and evidence-based frameworks, participants gain practical tools to respond with care and confidence. Completing the course equips attendees to become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders), prepared to offer informed support when it matters most.
What you’ll learn
- Intervene early. Recognise the warning signs of mental health problems in young people.

- Reduce stigma. Reduce stigma and increase support for young people living with mental health problems.
The course covers depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use problems, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, panic attacks and non-suicidal self-injury in young people aged 12 to 18.
